Forging New Heroes With Highhelm
Paizo continues to add new details and dimensions to its Pathfinder RPG setting of Golarion with Pathfinder Lost Omens: Highhelm. Since Pathfinder 2E is known for deep character customization, what new character options are introduced in Highhelm, what kind of characters are ideal for a campaign set in Highhelm, and how can the deep dive into dwarven lore and culture empower your roleplaying as a dwarven character in Pathfinder 2E? Let’s take a look!
Lost Omens: Highhelm Role-Play
Providing the most in-depth look at dwarven culture yet in any Pathfinder 2E source material, Lost Omens: Highhelm is a must-have roleplaying resource for anyone interested in playing a dwarf character in Golarion. It can also be a valuable source of inspiration even for those playing in homebrew settings.
Highhelm fully fleshes out “orthodox” dwarven religious practices and also explains the beliefs of Rivethun, a group that adheres to an alternative tradition of ancestor and spirit worship. The dwarven social structure of castes and clans is explained, with descriptions of 16 of the most notable clans from the ambitious Clan Aringeld to the stereotype-defying magic-users of Clan Runebinder. Add in the rich details on crime syndicates, counterculture movements, and various crafting and merchant guilds, and you have a mountain of raw materials to spur the imagination of any player who wants to create a unique backstory for a Highhelm campaign, or for a dwarf PC adventuring anywhere in Golarion.
Lost Omens: Highhelm Character Options
Lost Omens: Highhelm contains a smattering of new character possibilities throughout its descriptions of the various districts within the dwarven Sky Citadel, but its third section is devoted entirely to new PC build options.
Among them are:
- Three new character backgrounds tied into Highhelm lore: the peacekeeping Fightbreaker; the shrewd Union Representative; and the Highborn Snoop, gifted at sniffing out schemes among the rich and powerful
- The Stalwart Defender dedication, an unshakable mountain of martial might boasting feats that cap off with resistance 10 to all damage
- Divine fonts, domains, granted spells, and favored weapons for each dwarven deity, sure to make Cleric and Champion players rejoice
- A new dwarf heritage, the Forge-Blessed Dwarf, which gives you an innate divine spell from a member of the dwarven pantheon
All of these options are seamlessly integrated into the NEXUS Character Builder when you add Lost Omens: Highhelm to your library, making it easy to discover and experiment with them.
But don’t be mistaken and think that Lost Omens: Highhelm has nothing to offer for those who don’t play dwarf characters. Many of the new options, like the new backgrounds, are available to players of any ancestry. The book also introduces over 30 new items and gear pieces, including a trio of new firearms, several high-level armor pieces, keep stone dwarven crafting alloy, plus an array of legendary items and forge relics. There’s something in the treasures of Highhelm to catch the eye of any adventurer.
